We’ve Been Around the Block. And the Backyard.
About VHS

Our Story
Built From the Ground Up
Chris was 15 the summer he bought a lawnmower and started mowing lawns for elderly neighbors around San Antonio. He spent July afternoons sweating in the Texas heat for a few dollars and the occasional glass of lemonade.
Along the way, he started paying attention to more than how a yard looked. Once a yard was cleaned up, people used it differently. They lingered on the patio after dinner, invited family over, and found more reasons to spend time outside.
That's when he realized he wasn't just improving yards. He was changing the way people lived in them.
That first lawnmower is long gone, but what Chris learned behind it never left. Nearly 30 years later, VHS is still built on the belief that the best outdoor spaces are the ones that bring people outside.

We Take Your Yard Personally
Because the Details Matter
You deserve to feel confident in who you hire. Your yard isn't another project. It's where birthdays are celebrated, kids grow up, and friends gather. You want someone who will listen to your ideas, respect your budget, explain your options, and guide the project without making the process feel overwhelming.
We aren't interested in talking you into the biggest project. We'd rather help you solve problems and spend your budget where it will make the biggest difference. Sometimes the best answer is a different layout, keeping something that's already working, or solving the problem a simpler way. We've been doing this long enough to have opinions. We'll explain what we recommend and why.
From Chris
Still Playing in the Dirt
Chris has always been happiest with his hands in the dirt. As a kid, that looked like planting beans in the backyard and finding any excuse to be outside. Today, it means walking job sites, spotting problems before they become expensive, and helping homeowners figure out what will work best for their yard.
Hear directly from him about how VHS approaches a project, what he notices when he walks a property, and why he'll probably never stop playing in the dirt.

Our Promise
The VHS Difference
01
We listen before we design. Every family lives differently, so every outdoor space should too.
02
We treat your home with the same care we'd want for our own. We show up when we say we will, communicate clearly, and clean up after ourselves.
03
No guesswork. No hidden costs. We give you detailed, honest pricing so you can make confident decisions.
04
You won't have to wonder who to call. You'll know who's managing your project, how to reach them, and what's happening next. Questions get real answers from real people.
Our Team
Great Work Starts with Great People.
Behind every VHS project is a team that cares about getting it right. A VHS project involves a consultant, designer, project manager, and experienced installation crews. These are the people you'll hear from, work with, and see around your home.

Chris
Owner & Consultant
Chris measures success a little differently. He'd rather have a reputation for doing what he said he would do than for being the biggest landscaping company in town. He visits job sites, checks in with the team, and works alongside clients to find thoughtful solutions. He’s built the company by earning trust one relationship at a time.
Growing up, money was tight, which taught Chris to spend carefully and invest in things that last. As a kid, he rebuilt lawnmowers instead of replacing them. That same practicality shows up in the way he runs VHS, whether he's figuring out a project, seeing potential in a property, or giving someone on his team room to grow.
Chris is still the guy who sees what needs to be done and figures it out. When the work is done, he doesn't sit still for long. You'll usually find him outside, on a bike, walking the dogs, or heading somewhere to camp for the weekend.

Sean
Consultant
Sean is one of those people who would rather show you than tell you. With more than 12 years of experience in outdoor construction, he spent years building patios and laying stone before ever meeting with homeowners as a consultant. That experience shapes the conversations he has with clients today. He knows where details matter, where money is well spent, and when a simpler solution is the better one.
Honest, practical, and easy to talk to, Sean brings a "let's figure it out" attitude to every project. He's been part of the VHS team for nearly six years because he enjoys working alongside people who care about quality, customer service, and doing right by every client. Coworkers will tell you he's one of the funniest people on the team, even if he'd never say so himself.

Rebecca
Design Coordinator
Rebecca didn't expect landscaping to become her career, but spending time outdoors has always been part of who she is. As a kid, she was gardening with her mom, catching butterflies, and hiking with her dad. Her career took a few unexpected turns through agriculture, brewing, and even tech before she found her way to the San Antonio Botanical Garden, where she discovered a passion for creating outdoor spaces that bring people together. She's been in the landscaping industry ever since.
Rebecca has a knack for taking ideas that feel scattered or half-finished and turning them into a design that is clear and achievable. Drawing on her background in horticulture and soil science, she blends creativity with a practical understanding of plants, soil, and construction to help homeowners see what's possible while making the design process feel approachable from start to finish.

Jose
Project Manager
Nothing slips past Jose. He started his career installing landscapes before learning consulting, estimating, and project management. Having worked on both the planning and construction sides of a project helps him anticipate problems and keeps communication flowing between clients and crews.
Jose is the kind of person who takes on a new challenge with a smile. He is constantly researching products, installation methods, and better ways to serve clients. His calm, positive presence gives people confidence that their project is in capable hands. Although project management comes with time behind a desk, Jose would much rather be walking a job site, supporting the crews, and seeing the work take shape.

Byron
Project Manager
Some people see a problem. Byron starts thinking about solutions. With 40 years in the irrigation industry and a TCEQ irrigator's license, there's a good chance he's seen your drainage, irrigation, or grading challenge before. Years in the field have also taught him to notice things others might miss, from the flow of the ground to the structure of a tree.
Byron grew up on a ranch, tagging along with his grandfather and dad before he was old enough to work beside them. That early connection to the land never left. He's generous with what he's learned and is often the person the team turns to when something unusual comes up. Outside of VHS, he's still a rancher, with cattle to tend, fences to fix, and usually a fishing story to tell.

Jenn
Marketing & Communications
Jenn didn't grow up knowing the names of plants or dreaming about landscaping. Over the years, though, she's come to appreciate the little things that make a backyard hard to leave. These days, she'll happily point out a beautiful oak tree, almost always choose the patio over a table inside, and has become the proud owner of more houseplants than she ever expected.
Jenn handles the VHS website, photography, social media, and much of what clients see before they ever meet the team. A big part of her job is giving homeowners a real look at the people behind the projects and making useful information easy to find. She wants clients to know what to expect, who they'll be working with, and feel comfortable with VHS before the first consultation.
